If you have received a letter confirming that the birth is entered in the register of civil status, you must proceed as described below.
The correction must be requested jointly by the child's parents.
You must fill out the Request to correct a life event in the register of civil status form to request a correction of a life event and send it by mail to the Directeur de l’état civil.
We will review the information contained in the file. If we see that there is an error, we will make the necessary correction within the limits of the powers conferred on us by law. Otherwise, we will inform you about the solution that is appropriate for the situation.
Keep the confirmation letter you have received, as it contains a Rapid Secure Access Number (RSAN). This number allows us to verify your identity when you order a certificate or a copy of an act using the DEClic! Express online service.
Processing time
The processing time for a request to correct a Declaration of Birth is 30 to 90 days, on the average, if all the required documents are received by the Directeur de l’état civil. The time may also vary according to the number of files to be processed or their complexity.
