Language of acts of civil status and issuing of documents

Acts of civil status may be entered in the register of civil status in French or English.

Civil status events are registered in the language of the form used to declare the event.

The declarant determines the language in which the event is registered by filling out the form in the language of his or her choice. The certificates and copies of acts will be drawn up in the language of the form used. Certificates and copies of acts

Certificates and copies of acts are drawn up using the information contained in the original act entered in the register, spelled as therein, and not the information provided in the application for a certificate or a copy of an act. Furthermore, they are drawn up in the language in which the event was registered.
